Remote Stopped Working

Hi. This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this accordingly. I looked and didn't see any guidelines, so here goes.

I'm breaking down the details of my issue into bullet points as I believe it will be easier for everyone.

- We have only one key/remote.
- The remote completely stopped working a few months back.
- Power locks work from center console switch except for rear hatch.
- Power locks attempt to lock after accelerating from a stop every time even when doors are already locked.
- I've changed the remote's battery and verified the battery voltage with a multimeter.
- I've attempted re-synchronizing the remote.
- Scan tool: Autel AP200M
- AAM code: b1858-002 two-way radio signal the programmed code is ok but the programmable code is not synchronized.
- Scan tool live data: rear hatch continuously registers as open.
- Scan tool live data: key in switch registers as #3 and shows as synchronized.
- Live data: rear hatch registering continuously registering as open.
- Live data: key in ignition shows as #3 and also shows as being synchronized.

If anyone can provide some advice or guidance, I'd greatly appreciate it!

How long have you owned this vehicle?

I've owned the vehicle for at least five years. I can probably get a more accurate duration if needed.

Were you aware that M/B stopped producing W163 keys as of Oct. 2016 ?

Try to sync the key according to instructions.

Ugh. I was not aware of that. I'm guessing there isn't anyone that can provide an alternative either.

I have tried that sync procedure exactly as detailed multiple times before, but I just tried it again without any success.

So possibly the remote has gone bad?

This place is a joke.
I've only been successful re-syncing the remote in the proper screen on an Xentry (used to be DAS) diagnostic computer. Something about holding down the lock button and unlock 3 times, but need that computer to do it. And yes, remote keys are no longer available but valet keys (just a blade) are still available, for now. One day they may not be and these cars will be 4000lbs of obsolete scrap metal at that point. Additionally MB recently discontinued the AAM which is the vin coded part of the anti theft system. If that goes bad... scrap metal. DO NOT 🚫 jump start or excessively attempt to crank the engine on a dead battery in your 163. This is the most common cause of wiping out the AAM due to the voltage spikes while the key is in the "on" position. DO NOT replace the battery with the key in the ignition either.

All this seems to point me to bypassing the factory alarm system and installing my own as the best solution. I hate not being able to fix something, but at least I could add remote start and I might look into a push button start as well. Thanks.

If S97 did not flash, then you must go to your nearest M/B dealer with your license, registration and proof of ownership and ask for emergency key.

This key will start the car and close all door locks, but you will not have anti theft. You must pay in advance and wait 5 days for the key to arrive at the dealer.
