Red Brake Calipers

Hello,

Who makes these for the factory version ML55?

Also what is the rim size needed to install these?

I have a 98 ML. I'm in the process of doing some modifications - wheels, rims, brakes, adding sill panels, light retrofit, new seat covers.

Thanks,

Dan

ML55 Brakes are from Brembo... the smallest wheel you can run with the brakes I believe are either 17's or 18's.

Thanks for the info.

So all I need is the bigger rims (18") and brake kit and that is all?

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
internal rim clearance is whats important. yes, all you need for a brake upgrade is a bbk and a set of wheels. youre looking at about $3500 in brembo brakes, and thats the fronts only.

Thanks for the info.

Damn...I didn't think they would be that expensive.

Do any other companies sell a comparable brake for a lot less?

Have you thought about just having your powder coated red? Then you have no worries about clearance etc.

ML430/500 wheels are the minimum size/specs need (17 inch, not sure about offsets, etc.)

there are kits you can buy for pretty cheap that are used for painting your brakes. It's kind of a 'do it yourself' kit. I've seen it on many MB accessories websites, like amgkit.com.

no true bbk upgrades for less... but for the look...you can either paint the calipers yourself, or get them powdercoated.

rotors, many sites sell drilled rotors that give the look. they are about 75 each.

That's what I did. Cheap and easy.

I looked into the ML55 calipers but it involved beefing up the entire braking system not just caliper replacement so it really is not economocailly feasible to go with the ML55 set up. Here's a shot of what I did:

Thanks for all the info. Looks like painting is the only economical option ...or simply trading my car for an ML55!
