question about light switch stalk

what is the purpose of the switch when you turn it towards you from off...I thought it had a symbol or something? I know there is off, parking and then lights...but what is back before off in the clockwise position? what does that do????

When you turn it off, then you turn it one more click that is the parking side light. If you turn it this way and then turn your blinker on it will turn on the lights on the outside, they wont blink but if you are parked on the side of the street and it is foggy they will help other cars see you and not run into you. Both sides will work but only the side you select. Autogunner.

Gunner is correct. It comes from the fact that many European streets are so narrow and that the houses are so close to the street (few have garages). Owners park in front of their houses with two wheels on the sidewalk and two in the street. They turn the street side lamps on and leave them on all night. If they didn't the vehicle would be hit sooner or later.
