If it is a 500 then it should have come standard. If you got the 350 then it is an option. Just go back and ask them how much to install it? You already have everything in place it just needs the DVD drive for the NAV. Simple fix. It seems that you just need to pay for the option.

2000 ML320 Brilliant Silver
LVDell is right. I have the same issue although I have older model but I have the main unit like yours. If you're willing to spend $1200 (at least it's what my dealer's charging me) then go for it. If I remember it correctly, somebody here in the thread is selling the Nav unit for $700 but I'm not sure if it's the DVD or not, you might want to ask him.

very simple install... all the wiring is already there, plug in, program and go...
The dvd units are about a grand plus installation.

$1K plus if you want the DVD
$500+ if you want the CD based. If you don't do that much travel, save some cash and go for the CD based (unless of course yours only takes DVD).
