ML2000 Tires?

This question might have been asked before. I am about to buy four news tires. I have a 2000 ML320 with ML430 7 spoke wheels with 275-55-17" tires. The tires are Dunlap Granktrak. I would like opinions of a better all around all season highway tire. Thanks

I got the Michelin Cross Terrain's from http://www.tires.com/. Bought them from one of their outlets here in Ohio. I like them, guess its just a personal choice. They cost me around $200 each including free rotation and balance as long as you have them. Didn't get the road hazard coverage for the extra $$. I believe they have a 65,000 mile rating on them also. Probably will last a lot longer. Just my 2 cents.

To bad the Dunlop TG35's are no longer available. They were great tires at a very reasonable price. I recently swapped over to the Bridgestone Duelers. Got them at TiresPlus for the the same price as The TireRack less shipping. So far with approx 5000miles on them. I've been very happy.......

No more Grand Trek's??? IMO they're a pretty good tire for year round driving.

Our first set lasted 50k miles! We're on our second set of the Trek's now. Guess we'll hafta settle for another brand when it comes time.

yeh, unfortunately they have been superseded with the Dunlop SP Sport. I was very happy with the TG35 (GRANDTREK)....so much that over the 200,000 miles on my ML, every set of replacements were the TG35's. I also averaged between 40-50,000 per set and they were outstanding in rain.

Just went to the above site and noticed they have the SP Sport for sale for the 17" ML wheels for $103.00/each......hard to beat that price, might be worth checking out. I believe Dunlop is one of the better manufacturers.

How long will the original tire from Mercedes last? I believe the tire is General ST. Currently my car is 54,000 miles. Thanks.

There are so many variables that determine tread life. Alignment and tire pressure being the top two. When I got my 99 430, it came with the Dunlop TG35 but they were also installing the Generals at the same time. Both were ok but I believe the Dunlops were the preferred tire.

It really amazed me that such a heavy, truck-like vehicle (body on frame) could get 40,000 miles out of a set of tires and still have decent tread. Thats why I stuck with the Dunlops for so long and they were CHEAP..at least in price!

I attribute the extended tire life to a rugged well-built suspension and a well-balanced vehicle. The alignment has never been a problem and as long as you monitor pressures weekly, you should get excellent mileage out of any brand...just depending on the compound of the tire.....
