Opinion of the ML
I don't know about everybody who owns an ML, but I just purchased a 2000 ML320 about a month ago. Well, here is what I think.
1. The ML handles great, very impressed. Comfortable seats and is fun to drive. Very stable driving past 80 mph
2. The ride is wonderful for a truck this size and weight
3. The pick up is great
4. The interior is very nice, tight no rattles or squeaks, leather is perfect
5. Great looking style, all the neighbors comments on the good looks, etc.
6. More than enough room all around inside
7. Bose radio with 6 CD changer plays and sounds wonderful
8. The headlights could be brighter
9. The fit and finish is very nice. When clean and waxed it looks brand new
10. Gas mileage is decent
11. Brakes are just fabulous
12. And of course the safety aspect is unquestionable
That's my opinion. I like ML a lot. I've owned and driven many, many cars, SUV's, etc. Both crap and high end. This vehicle ranks one of the best

I would agree, I really liked my M-class despite what a lot of "MB purists" have to say. I had it for a trouble-free four years.
Mine was a 2000 model; I replaced the headlights with newer ones and that definitely solved the headlight issue you mentioned. Although I thought the stock headlights performed pretty good for halogen headlights!

Glad you like your ML. I just picked up an '05 ML350 Special Edition. One nice truck! My wife (who did not like SUVs) loves this one! I get to drive it on weekends (with permission)

I have had my 00 ML320 for 4 years now..
With 75K miles on it, I too am absolutely happy with it. Post warranty, it had some issues, had to pay to get things fixed, but over all, I am very satisfed with its performance.
Great to drive, nice looks, great interior and awesome handling.
I had opted for the ML over the Lexus RX 300 and the BMW X5 and don't regret my decision a bit.
This one truely drives and feels like a truck, but still keeps the luxury car feel in it! Unlike others, that are either too car like, or too truck like...

I think they are OK... My ML is driven by my better half... I think it drives like a Minivan and it handdles terrible... But then again Im a sport car type of driver.... I rather stick with bimmers.

I had two ML's a 2000 ML320 and a 2003 ML500 Inspiration. I recently traded (6 weeks ago) the ML500 for an 04 E500 4matic. The 00 ML320 had quite a few minor issues. While most of these problems were non-existent in the 03 ML500.
I went through four, yes that's four, MCS head uints in the ML320. Had lots of fit and finish issues with it too. Both ML's had unacceptable wind noise when the sunroof was open. You didn't pass too many gas stations in the 500, best it made was 14 MPG. This was probably the big reason why I traded off for the E500.
That being said, both rigs were simply fantastic on bad (snow, ice, wet) roads. It was actually scarry how well they handled as you didn't notice how bad the driving conditions actuall were. You're driving position was just about perfect. Taller than a sedan but not to tall that wifey can't get in without side running boards. We miss the spacious room of the ML as the E is rather tight for back seat passengers. The cargo capacity was was great too. Plenty of room with the rear seats down.
Admittedly, the ML was a more practical vehicle for our neck of the woods (Montana), but when I put the hammer down on the E500............ WOW!
Just my 2-cents worth.

The W163 is a great truck. I'm seeing all the interest in the new W164 coming next spring. Looks too Lexus-like for me and the unibody will be too car-like for me also. Pretty soon the ML will be looking like every other SUV on the road. You'll see yourself coming and going. No thanks, I'm keeping my W163!!
