I do EVERY 5K miles with a fresh supply of 0W-40 and new filter. Plan on keeping this puppy healthy for quite some time.

If I am not mistaken you can "reset" the FSS so it is set to your intended mileage requirement instead of the MB preprogrammed interval. Check the manual, I am pretty certain I came across that this past week when I was reading it over.

i am worried that the fss will refelct longer mileage therefore having mb not honor the proper free services.

totally understand. What I did when I got my service included (car just hit 4 years and free service is no more) was change the oil inbetween changes. Since each interval was about 10-12K miles, I would change 5K into the A or B service. So, if they did my oil at 12K miles, then I changed it at 17K miles and I ended up going in for the next free service when the FSS indicated at about 5-6K more miles (about 24K). I think my A was 12 and 37K and my B's were at 25 and 48K. Hope that helps.

On the subject of oil change, why would you suck the oil out from the dipstick if the oil pan has a drain plug? I looked at my oil pan and I think I did see a drain plug...

3 reasons:

1. You get MORE out that way including that crap that doesn't drip out and sits at the bottom.

2. If you are not careful, you will get oil all over places you are not supposed to get oil on (thank MB for an ingenious design of the plug location!).

3. It's so much easier!!! I use the the MityVac. Some use a topsider.

By the way, this is the method the dealer uses.

Drain plugs blow... I stopped using them long ago. I use the mityvac all day, every day. Got over 2 years on her now and today I had to change 1 O-ring for the first time ever. I have not done anything else to this thing. I even used it today again on my own ML.

Another Topsider here... it is sinister on how easy it is :v Plus I seem to get every drop of oil as I have to fill it with about 9.5 qts to get the stick to say full.
