Hello everyone. I just got my vehicle a couple of weeks ago. Its a 2001 ml430 with 58,000km since I live in Canada. I was driving and all of a sudden the check engine light came on. And next thing you know the car wouldnt shift out of first Gear. So then I move the shifter side to side to see if the tiptrionic would engage but it didnt the dam thing just stayed in D. I droped my car of at the Mercedes Dealership. And have to wait until the service department opens. I thought I bought a reliable vehicle but all I bought was
high performence mechanical piece of junk. The trans might be covered under waranty as the service rep said. But its just the pain of driving 40 mins to the dealer a million times and not getting a guarentee that its going to be covered. They said the chances of me getting a loaner are 10%, now that pisses me off even more

thats annoying, but it might not be the transmission unit thats bad. Did you spill anything on the shifter? It could be a simple computer issue... the computers are very sensitive.

Nope not a thing thats the thing. Thats what really confuses me. I didnt spill anything but something in the trans is screwed.

most likely a computer module that's gone south...

I doubt that the transmission went, just probably a electrical bug.

Problem free??? Think again. Its a car, not a stone. With thousands of moving parts and hundreds of electrical circuits, something is bound to go wrong now and then.

Look, before you trash MB, remember you purchased a used vehicle and no matter what you saw in the service history you really do not know for certain how the vehicle was maintained or driven. If you want the full MB assurance next time buy a new vehicle with warranty. Used vehicles of any sort carry a bigger risk to the purchaser than a new vehicle. I suggest you bite the bullet and have an MB dealer repair the problem and the repair will carry a warranty. In any case I am sorry for your problems but the previous poster is correct and vehicles do require maint and repairs.

Yea its not really a major concern anymore. Just hope the thing gets fixed and luckily its under warranty. I found a good deal on an ml55 from the mercedes dealership itself. So I might switch to it. But I might still keep the 430. Chances are 50/50

just to let you know, its a used car too... so dont expect it to be perfect. being a benz doesnt mean it was made perfectly so relax if something goes wrong. we dont need another great thread like this one.

some cars are just made better then others even if they are exactly the same.. some times the worker; who is putting parts in to your car,at the factory is having a bad day,he might be tired or stressed, then that day things he do will not be up to par,
