Exclamation ML 320 stuck between drive and park tip!

Here is one of those one in a million things that can happen. My 99 ML320, has 83 k (50,000 miles) and tonight, I left my garage, about -15C outside, drove to town, and when I went to stop the car at a store, the shifter was tight trying to get it from drive to park. With a little back and forth , some pressure, it went to park. Went to leave, and same thing, just tight feeling, and went to reverse, then to drive. Stopped again, same thing, but a little different feeling this time. l came home, parked in my shop, and seemed snug, then went fine into park. After I crawled underneath, I discovered a small stone bounced up, and landed between the transmission case, and right where the shift lever enters the trans, this stone was split( by my levering) and lodged under the arm and edge of the housing. Poked it out, and all is smooth again. If anyone else has had this, please post, since I have never had this happen in any of my 45 some vehicles, even off road. If it is common, I will fashion a simple gaurd around this assembly. I notice afew things that seem to be a bit in the open around the tranny, and could be vulnerable to winter issues such as ice, snow, rocks, salt.

Never heard of it. Probably a one in a million shot, and it was your lucky day! Can you buy me a lottery ticket?
