Auto shifting problem.

Hi guys,

I have an intermittent shifting problem which has happened twice in the pastcouple of weeks.

As background mine is a ML430 1999 with just over 60,000 miles on the clock.

When I accelerate, the car won't change into third gear and stays in second at just under 3000 revs sticking at approx thirty miles an hour. When I stop, the car feels as if it is going to stall. I turn the engine off, restart and everything is ok again. Although this has only happened twice, I am very worried as I fear the repair would be expensive.

Thanks in advance for anyhelp which you guys could provide.

Sounds like an electrical gremlin. Shouldn't be hard to fix. You need to have the codes scanned, something should show up and its cake from there. If there aren't any codes, thats where the real expensive stuff comes in to play.

Thanks for the advice pal. Do you think an independent MB specialist will have the equipment to flash the ECU or will i have to go to a main dealer.

PS My girlfriend has got a digital camera for Xmas so I'll try and post some pics of my car soon. (AMG grill and wheels, tinted windows, Pioneer headunit inside)

I doubt you will ever catch me recommending an independent. I work at the dealer, we are the best!

I've read elsewhere that what I've epxerienced is the car going into "limp home mode". It seems to happen when I floor the gas from a cold start. Other than that it never seems to happenv after the engine has warmed up. Will have to get it checked out at a garage soon.
