Major question!!! lol
My sister has a ml320 and so does my neighbor, and they're constantly breaking down. I understand there were a few recalls and her car was serviced accordingly. Has anyone else experienced major problems? A big problem is that the car sometimes hesitates and has brake problems often. She loves the car but eventually has to get a new one due to the difficulties and i can tell her heart is set on a newer ml. Honestly, does the new ml have less problems?

Only had one problem with my ML (albeit a rather serious one). Otherwise, it's been a perfect vehicle. I think some people get luck and others...well, don't.

2002 ML320
Yeah the ML had issues right up to 2001. Our relatives have an '01 ML320 bought new - now has about 40K on it - and it's been a nightmare since it hit about 20K (before which it was perfect). Constant problems - random locking/unlocking that the dealer cannot fix, the window inside piece melting issue (replaced every month or so during the summer by the dealer, but never stops), sudden steering lock (quite dangerous on the highway -- happened twice), sudden engine cut-out (also dangerous on the highway), and various other issues. Their dealer's an hour away (they live in Ohio) and doesn't give loaner cars or any other such conveniences, so maintaining the car has become very time-consuming and expensive (since the dealer claims nothing is covered under warranty). They've basically sworn never to buy an MB again -- their next car will be a Lexus...
The '02 and up ML's are better. Our '02 320 has been pretty good so far.

With my experience on 2MLs, 320 and 55. Other than
their brake squeal noise, un-even brake pad & rotors life due to ESP, Power steeling line burst during driving, squeaky noise from suspension and sway bar, check engine light and the engine oil light become reg driving light on your dash. All ML has no problem.
Anyways, I still love my ML.
Enjoy
