new V8 - when ?
Cayenne S has 340
Touareg V8 has 310
I'd never bought a W163 but became a believer with W164.
I tested a 268 hp ML 350 2 weeks ago. Great experience, excellent ride, pleasant design.
Absolutely enough horses for the rational buyer.
For myself, I'd like a bit more juice. In the Cayenne S category. And V8 of course.
When will the company that invented the merger of equals step it up ?
I'd jump on the 2006 ML w/ a V8 in the range of 330 - 360 hp.
I know it's a question of when not of if. So: WHEN ?

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
M-Class Touareg V8 Cayenne S
5.0L 302 hp 4.2L 310 hp V8 4.5L 340 hp V8
Horsepower 302 @ 5600 RPM 310 @ 6200 RPM 340 @ 6000 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 339 @ 2700 RPM 302 @ 3000 RPM 310 @ 2500 RPM
Also both the Touareg and the Cayenne are heavier, so I think the ML500 is a winner as far as power goes.

But after my idea, the ML320CDI offer an even better ride and more sensible choice. (510 NM compared to the 460NM of the ML 500)

the new S class will have the following engines:
S 350: 200 kW/272 hp V6
S 500: 285 kW/388 hp V8
S 320 CDI: 170 kW/231 hp (from first quarter 2006)
S 600: 380 kW/ 517 hp (from first quarter 2006) V12
note all hp are metric. I added the Vx from another source (www.spiegel.de)
The 285kW will likely be the new V8 for the 2007 ML 500. Cool.
