Humming/Whining Noise
Has anyone noticed a humming or whining noise that increases in frequency as speed increases? It is not overtly noticable, but it is definitely there. I was wondering if it might be just b/c the vehicle is AWD as the sound seems to be coming from the front wheels/axles. If not, off to the dealer I go...

It is definitely not the tires...I took it to the dealer this morning and took a ride with the technician...the sound is definitely not normal. The car has just 1600 miles on it, and I have already been through one tire (Bridgestone Turanza, which they apparently discontinued in the 'W' speed rating, sticking me with 3 'W' tires and one 'V', and costs an arm and a leg), and now strange noises from what I am guessing is somewhere in the drivetrain. I hope this is the beginning and end to problems...

Well, my service advisor just called to inform me that I will be driving a loaner car for 2 to 3 weeks. Apparently the bearings in the transfer case in the front are bad and they don't even have a part number for them yet. So the waiting begins. They put me in a Toyota Camry, but since it will be a longer than expected or wanted visit to the dealership, I told him that I wanted a MB loaner. Just my luck.

2006 ML 500 and 2006 SLK 55 AMG
What dealership are you using, Park Place or Ewing Autohaus? Also, who's your salesperson? One of the things that both dealerships brag about is using MB's for loaners (when bringing the car in for service) when the car was purchased from that same dealer.
I hope your issue gets resolved quickly and turns out to be relatively minor.
We ordered the ML 500 and the SLK 55 AMG from Clay at Ewing Autohaus.

Well, I got my car back today, a lot earlier than I had expected. As stated earlier, the transfer case was making the noise and it was replaced. We will have to see if this car holds up in the coming months.
