22' is too much?

Hello,

Is 22' 265/35 and 295/30 too much? I only use the car onroad.

In the sportcoupe I have 225/45 17'.

Will they have the same rubber thikness? (worryed about rim protection).

Best Regards.

I doubt you can fit 22 foot wheels on your ML

Well I just spoke with Brabus and they give me 2 options:

A)
20' Multipiece 9.5J*20'
275/40
Electronic Airmatic Lowering module -3 Cm
8050€

B)
22' Onepiece 10J*22'
265/35 & 295/30
5160€

The Brabus Man Has strongly suggested me 22 instead of 20 that where the ones that I want.

The one in the photo is 22.

Sidewall height comparison for the sizes listed: .45 x 225 = 101 mm; .35 x 265 = 93 mm; .30 x 295 = 88.5 mm. So, there is less sidewall with either of those options than your current car, meaning stiffer ride and less protection from damage. Those aspect ratios are fine on a sports coupe, but I have no experience with them on a heavy vehicle.

22" wheels are very heavy, which works against three areas of performance, acceleration, braking and handling (suspension compliance). IMO, 22s make no sense and are too bling for my taste, but to each his own.

Thanks you. This has answered a lot of questions. I will wait brabus make more wheel combinations because I would like something in 20' but with wider tires.

Is there any advantage of multipiece wheels? For apearance I prefer one piece.

Best Regards.

Rubensans, I completely agree with you on the one piece over multi piece.

I discussed with the French Brabus importer about the rims issue (I don't like both of the Brabus choice) and he told me that they chose the 20 and 22 inches sizes for safety reason (to put big brakes for the most powerful models). Perhaps they'll extend their rims line up but for now that's all what they have.
Basicelly, I'd like to have 19 inches one piece rims on mine. I will wait to see what the other tuners will offer.

BTW: Rubensans, the prices you gave were tax excluded?? The quotes I got for France for 4 rims+4 tyres+installation were:
20' monoblock VI: approx 11300 euros
22' monoblock VI: approx 9500 euros

That's a LOT of difference.

A well-made one-piece wheel is superior to two or three-piece ones because it can be lighter. The multi-piece style gives manufacturers more flexibility for offset with fewer different parts and originally came from racing where offsets needed great flexibility, but it offers now inherent value for street cars.

Thanks, it makes sense now.

I hope that they will extent their rims line up. Even in their press report, they said they would make some 18' multi pieces rims.

Do you know if the sell the 2 pieces of the multipiece wheels separately?

In that case If I damage the ring; I wont have to buy the whole rim.

Best Regards.
