Gas Gauge (Is this normal?)
I have a ML350. I filled up for the first time yesterday. Out here in California premium gas is $2.71/gal. I went to Costco yesterday and spent $59 ($2.69/gal) to fill it up. When I was done, the fuel guage was on full. After about 10 miles, I noticed the needle was not on full anymore. It was more than halfway between 3/4 and full. Has anyone noticed this? Is this normal? I had and Escalade (6.0 liter/26 gallon tank) prior to this one and it took more miles to move the needle from full.

It seems to me that MB gas gage reads very true, where as others stay at full longer, but the bottom half of the tank goes by very quickly.
For instance, when I fill up our MB when gage reads 70-80 miles 3/4 full, 150-160 1/2 full, 220-230 1/4 full and around 270-280 well low light comes on. Fill up around 300 miles.
On my Camry, it has 75 miles on it before it dips below the full mark and read 250 at half but needs to be filled at 350. 250 miles the first half of tank, 100 miles the last half of tank.
I think it is normal.

it could be a bad fuel sender unit...this was a very common problem in the w163. The gas gauge would either never read full after a fillup or would move from full very quickly, perhaps after a few miles of driving.
Perhaps give your service advisor a call and see. Overall though, how many miles are you getting? If it seems on the low side, then it could very well be a bad fuel sender unit.

ya, our ML55 does this once in a while. Also, sometimes the reserve light will come on while driving, but later after turning off and starting the car again the needle will be between 1/2 and 1/4. Our previous ML(an '01 320) did this too, but we took it in and had it fixed.
