Buying a new ML. I have one 'local' dealer the rest are in other parts of the state.

Do i pay the extra and buy from the local dealer or do I save $1500 and buy from a dealer 2 or more hours away?.

Thoughts?

Depends on what the local dealer's policy is on loaner vehicles. Some shortsighted dealers will only give you a loaner if you buy from them.

Buy local!! $1500 is a small amount to pay when you will have to rely on this dealer to service and support the vehicle. You can try to negotiate with the other prices you received. I never understood why people go half way accross the country to save a nickle and then complain that they are not getting the attention they deserve from their local dealer.

You'll almost always receive better service from a dealer you purchased from (they want a repeat purchase). Plus, if you like the local dealer, I don't see a good enough reason to travel 2+ hours to save a little. Everyone has different priorities (price, services, etc) - what are yours?

If you are comfrotable with your local dealer, I would support them. They will support you in return. If they're sleezeballs, go for the lowest price. I have an excellent dealer and am willing to spend a little more up front for good service for the next 5 or 6 years. It does make a difference.

I would support my local dealer if he understood "deal." He doesn't so I am driving 2000 miles for my R500 to get the lowest price I could find. However, I did not purchase my present E320 locally but the service department at this same local dealer has treated me like royalty. MB loaner, great SA and good service. So it all depends on the dealer and what he can provide you.

My local dealer doesn't understand "deal" either. I personally have never seen any difference in service level between the different dealers i've taken my current car into to be serviced.
It is a shame but I think i'm going to go against the consensus and go for the lower price simply because it means I can have the Comfort Package or Air Suspension Package thrown in for free.
I wonder if anyone has ever tried to order out of state for a cheaper price and have it delivered?. Do such new car websites exists?

I am sure you can close a deal with a dealer and have the car shipped to you by private carrier but that may defeat the price break you are getting. I had a dealer in Annapolis, MD who would drive the car to your location for delivery and you had to pay return transportation for him. That a dealer would agree to deliver a car purchased at another dealer is highly unlikely, unless he was compensated for the effort.

I bought a car from my broker twice now. The last one is my W164. No negotiating with dealers. I told him what I wanted and he got it for me for invoice price. The only time I set foot in the local dealership is to test drive. As far as "better service from the local dealer", I have never been treated differently because I bought from someone else.

I wonder, what do you all mean by "I'll get better service if I buy the car from my local dealer"? Will he fetch you a cup of coffee or shine your shoes when you take your car in for service? Let me make an example - I bought my previous car from a broker and at around 51,000 miles I had to bring it in to a local dealer for service. Since it was already out of warranty, they still fixed it for free because I take it to them whenever something is wrong. It's called "good faith" service. Then again, that's my experience.

I just don't know why everyone think they'd get better service than anyone else because they bought the car there. That's what the salesman tells you before you sign the deal. But we all line up to drop of our vehicles just like everyone. Yes, there are a--hole dealer service out there and you'll have to be careful around them. As long as you have warranty, they have to fix your car for free. One advice, be nice to them and they will treat you right (most of them anyway).

Try www.cartelligent.com It worked for me. If you're not in California, I'm sure they can help you either way.
