Tire Pressure Monitoring System

I can't seem to get the tire pressure to display. I hit the + button to reactivate, watch as it says tire pressure monitor being activated and then, it goes back to the screen which says tire pressure monitor may need to be reactivated. Is there something I am doing wrong?

The ML system, like many, is not a direct reading system where you can get a display of actual tire pressures. It uses the ABS sensors to monitor wheel rotation and will display a warning when one or more wheels differs in rotational speed from the others over a period of time (caused by low pressure changing the effective tire circumference). The reactivation feature is just to reset if you've changed tires or pressure.

Hi,

In Europe/UK there's supposed to be an option for a 'proper' tyre pressure monitoring system which shows actual tyre pressures on dash. I ordered it, but typically, it doesn't appear to be available to fit yet (although it's in the brochure).

Cheers,

TPS systems

[QUOTE=Wolfgang]Here's a link describing both systems:

I don't think the direct-reading one has been offered in US MLs, has it? Maybe it will be offered in Europe because of the higher speeds? The indirect system takes several psi of change before it is detected.

The direct-reading one is not yet available in Europe either, but "they are working on it" as far as I know. The indirect has some advantages since it works with any wheels, and is less sensitive if e.g. one side is exposed to the sun which may trigger the more sensitive direct reading system already.

my parts catalog shows all parts for the tire pressure monitoring system for the ML currently. These parts may not be available though.

The sun isnt going to make much difference in the indirect system since if it did then the cruise control would stop working too.

The indirect system has one disadvantage in the ML. Excessive amounts of wheel spin in a dirt environment may cause some confusion over the true state of one tyre. Even then i cant see it being a problem.
