Am about tobuy a new M. It is stock w/o satellite. i understand there is no mercedes dealer option....what other ideas....aftermarket only??

 

it is an option that your dealer can install, but its sirrus not XM...
i think its about $500(at least for the 500, probably the same for the 350).

i never had sat radio and i wanted it but i wanted XM (only because it has NASCAR!!! yeehaaww), and i'm also a cheapo and i didnt want to pay that much..

 

dealer says NO....there is not a way to do dealer indtall of any satellite radio

 

Per MB, sat radio can only be installed in the factory. However, I found someone that can add it after market. You will have to buy the wiring harness. I will look for that thread and paste it here.

 

I forgot to mention, another option is to buy an after market sat radio receiver and use a FM modulator. You will hear the sat programs through a FM channel in your radio. Of course it will not sound as good as direct connection to your speakers. I debated whether I should add sat radio in my ML. Since I listen only to music, I just burned 600 mp3 songs and loaded them in my CD changer. (IMO) It's better than sat radio because (1) the sound quality is better (2) I can control which songs I want to hear (3) no monthly payments. Besides, I had sat radio in my previous car and I wasn't that impressed with the programs. But if you like listening to talk radio, news, sports, etc., sat radio is for you.

mp3 - Yes, if you have the entertainment package (HK system), you can play mp3s in the cd changer.

ipod - I cannot really comment on this since I don't have an ipod. However, I've heard from people you can just plug it in the aux input located in the glove box.

 

Dealer can not install the "factory" system, but some dealers are offerring after market options. The factory route is Sirius only.

 

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and a bit confused about the possibility of upgrading an 06' E Class to Sirius Sat/Radio.

I am being told by my dealer that very few 06' E class cars are being made with this option and there is no factory upgrade path. This makes no sense to me - Is this true? Are there any MB techs out there that know the real scoop? If so, I would be very greatful if you could please explain it to me.

Is there any known or planned upgrade path from MBUSA?
