Toll transponder locations

I just picked up my new ML350 - great vehicle. I wanted to place the toll transponder just below the rear view mirror (top center) so I wouldn't see it from the driver's seat. However, in reading the owners manual, it indicates there are only three zones where the infrared preventative windshield will allow the signal to penetrate, and just below the mirror mount isn't one of them.

Anybody try other locations successfully?

In New Jersey, we have EZPass which is compatible with the system used in Massachusetts. When I ordered EZPass here, I asked for the unit that is attached to the front license plate. I'm sure Massachusetts offers the same option.

I didn't know there were recommended places but I put my toll transponder to the left of the mirror and my V1 to the right of it (near the top of the windshield but outside of the dark area behind the mirror). I haven't had any problems with either one.

I put mine right under the mirror up against the plastic cover. Works just fine. Do you have the optional windshiels they mention?? Most likely not.

That is only relevant with the solar glass that comes with the 3-zone Thermatronic (I think it is a stand-alone option in Europe?)--unless you have that package you should be able to put it anywhere.

success!

It appears that my ML350 does not have the referenced windshield and in fact the area just below the rear view mirror mount works fine. Of course if I get arrested for toll evasion in the next several days, I'll need to update this posting!
