Dealer performed 1000-3000 miles service without customer consent

Hi, folks,

If you read my previous post, you know how much trouble I had with my Jan '06 built ML500. After I got my car back from my most recent dealer visit to replace the power tail gate assembly, I just noticed that on the invoice, my 1k-3k free service has been peroformed without my consent. [!]

I am very unhappy about this because I think anything to be performed on my car needed to be okayed by me, even if it is free of charge. I did not want to do my 1k-3k service when I just hit 1k miles right before the car was sent to the dealer.

I haven't contacted the dealer but I am sure the answer will be "don't worry, it's free of charge" "we save you one trip to the dealership".. BS like that. Should I contact MB directly or is there anything I can do? BTW, this dealer is in San Jose near Capitol Expressway.

Thanks for your help...

Think the problem is with you. Don't be a jerk, the service is free and is just an inspection of certain areas. Bet they will do it again for you if you wish.

I came from BMW family that there are more of "free" services (pretty much all services/work done are free before 4y/50k). Some of those free services maybe quite a bit of work (like once they replaced both of my front/rear brake) so dealers usually are eager to "win" the business.

Maybe I just thought too much but will you be happy if extra service is done when you planned to do it later and you were never asked whether you want to do it? No one ever notified me even after the service is done. I only found out this 1k-3k service was done to my car when I found the service paper in my car and then checked the invoce to confirm it has been done..

my understanding is the dealer does not do anything to the car on the 1-3k service. All they would do is to check to see if things are working properly.
