Still rough downshift from 2nd to 1st

We have the updated transmission parts, but have nonetheless noticed a rough downshift from 2nd to 1st, around 10 mph, almost always when the vehicle is cold. It rarely does it when the vehicle is warmed up.

I talked with the service rep and he said that I was probably thinking of a rough shift from 3rd to 2nd, because the vehicle is"is not supposed to shift into first until it is stopped or almost stopped." That got me thinking: Could the problem be the sensor (or whatever) telling the transmission to downshift before the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

Anyone else had this problem and potential fix?

Mine does the same thing when it's cold. It also has a slip between 1st and 2nd when accelerating when cold. I've taken it in twice now and they seem to think it's normal. Normal my ***. I'm about ready to postal with em....

After a few miles it runs fine. To me it seems like it's just low on tranni fluid. I had a similar acting transmission and once I added a quart of fluid it was fine. Of course you can't even check the fluid yourself on these things.

I'm gonna try one more time when I take it for the 3000 mile service.

Hi,

This is exactly what I'm having as well. New valve body but still similar but not so bad rough downshift as before.

I think it is when the tranny shifts to 2nd gear. Also you can hear a not so loud loose "clunck" sound from the tranny direction when it makes the rough shift.

Before the valve body was replaced I think the rough downshift was harder and occured in lower speed than now.

My dealer also said "could dot reproduce, normal".

My dealer also said "normal, can't reproduce". I don't know how they can't reproduce it. Mine does it every start and every stop unless I brake very hard and then take off before coming to a complete stop. If I stop slowly, I get a clank and if I sit at a light for a miute I get that slip when I take off. It's just silly that they will not fix it.

Funny thing is that the dealer lost a sale over it. I car pool to work with 3 other engineers. One of them was also planning to buy a ML (He was planning on buying his before me but I got my tax refund first and beat him to the dealer). Once he drove for a week in my car and experienced the problem, he changed his mind and ended up with an X5. (I still the ML better than the X5).
