Auto Folding Mirrors

Was sitting in my ML500 yesterday waiting for someone and I flipped thru the MFD menus. Saw the auto folding mirrors and having forgotten about it I turned it on for the hell of it. Now when I lock the doors with the remote both mirrors fold in and when I unlock then open the door they both fold out. This is really quite nice and certainly makes it easier to walk between my cars in my garage. When parked away from home I believe it may prevent mirror damage from someone walking into it or bumping it. Have not read anything about this on the forums and wonder if anyone else is using this feature??

Yes, I have been using it for a year now on my ml 350. Also use it as a visual to make sure the car is locked from a distance.

Good idea to see if your car is locked but them again I have never had a problem with the locks on mine. Where in NJ are you located?? I have a summer home there also.

We are near Sandt Hook. Never had a problem with locks, just use it as a visual.

Thanks!! Our beach house is in Brigantine. I used to run my boat up to Pt Pleasant to fish some offshore tournements. Very familiar with your area.

Hi
I have the folding mirror option and I have only been using it manually (button) when I park the car in the automatic carwash. How do I programme it to be used with the remote-key? Thanks

Not certain if the Euro ML's have this but give it a try. Go to settings on the MFD menu, then I believe vehicle and you should see auto mirrors on or off. Turn them on and you should be set.

Thanks Sosh! I guess I should read the manual more. It's a neat and unique feature.

Hi Guys
Finally tried this option today in the menu (settings>convenience>fold in mirrors when locking on/off) and they work fine! Now I can watch from distance if the car is locked or not by looking at the mirrors. A great option

So far so good but I don't know how to activate the "mirror adjustment parking aid" because when I look in the convenience menu, I only see the "fold in mirrors" option. Does anyone have a clue about how to activate this useful function? Thanks

The way you program it is to put the car in reverse, then press the passenger side mirror button and adjust the mirror downwards so you can see your rear wheel. When you put the car in drive/park it will automatically revert to your 'normal' position. Next time you activate reverse the mirror will dip down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.. Tried it today but with no result. I don't understand why I don't seem to have the setting in the conveience menu. Apart from this menu I tried it manually as you descriped but it still didnt work. Perhaps its because I don't have the memory seats? Any help would be great.

Sorry, but from what I know, yes, you do need the full memory package for that feature.

I use the same featured on my E since Day 1 of recieving the car, I put the feature right up there with the Pano Roof and the Keyless Go, just excellent.

You are right, I have seen thismentioned in the past, I made the decision last year after reading about MB USA that if I ever did come back to live in the States I would order my next MB from Europe and go over and pick it up at the factory. Honestly I believe it to be the only way to go

Have a look at my posting -and several others - on this thread:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w164...r-reverse.html

Found on my S320 cdi that the dipping when reversing function was there -even though not in the handbook or in the computer settings in the instrument binnacle.

As i understand it the function is still on the ML just it is not always activated. If in US read the thread above then contact MBUSA giving details of your car or a Merc dealer. SOME say anyone with the full diagnostics kit can activate this function.

Sounds good but I believe that doing that would create some warranty issues for you and perhaps some parts availability issues.

Auto Folding Mirrors - paint scratch ?

Does anyone have a problem with / or even notice, that when
the mirrors are folded, they press on the same spot on the doors,
and will start leaving scratch marks after a while ?

Wondering if anyone has any good solutions to this ...
(apart from not using the feature)

thx!

Any concern about longevity, when I bought my used ML the option was enabled but I quickly disabled for fear of it breaking down. I'm I being overly cautious, I really only need the folding option when I'm at the mall or someplace overly crowded where no matter where you park you are next to someone.
