Temp dial stuck on HOT

My passenger side temperature dial is stuck on HOT, and I can't lower the temperature. The dial will turn and click, but the red light just bounces back and forth between two temperatures. Anyone had this problem?

Had this happen to me a few weeks ago. For me it was the drivers side (right hand side dial in Australia). If you apply pressure while turning you can adjust the position - i.e. try to pull the dial towards the back of the car and turn.

My dealer replaced the entire climate control panel, everything is fine now.

Similar thing happened to my ML350 on the front passenger side temp knob. Had it fixed last week - the climate control unit was replaced with a new unit. Took them just a couple of hours.
Dealer service technician said that mine was the 3rd unit with this problem that they had changed in the last month on the new ML.
He also mentioned that the part number for the replacement unit is now different even though appearance and function-wise, they are identical; which suggests that MB have discovered a faulty batch.

Incidentally, whilst I had the faulty unit, I found a temporary solution to the "jump back" problem. I simply turned the knob halfway between clicks, as soon as the indicator light advanced to next temperature level, I then turned it to back to its original position. (Does this make sense?)
Hope it works for you while you wait on getting the control unit fixed.
