Maintenance Manuals

Am about to change the oil on my ML 320CDI. Bought the filter at my MB dealer and parts man ran a picture of where the filter is. Looks very well hidden with covers needing to be removed. Any one know where to buy the maintance manuals at a good price besides the dealer?
By the way, filter was $28. It is a felt insert filter, different than any I have seen.
I would guess that the filter and location is different for the 320CDI and the 350/500?

You have to snap off the plastic engine shroud. It just lifts straight up and is held in place with 5 round headed studs that slip into friction rubber connectors. To replace it when finished, start by placing it around the oil filler cap. Then press the font ones into place, followed by the rear ones. It's a very positive feel when they go into place.

You're going to want the oil filter wrench to make removal and torquing back into place easier; and I hope you have a vacuum oil extractor. That makes the job so much easier and less messy. This one works very well:

I hope you purchased your oil at the dealer, too; since the Mobil 1 oil spec'd for that engine is available only at MBUSA dealers. I hope they don't over price it as much as they over priced your filter. List price is $5.90/qt. My dealer charged me $5.25/qt.

The closest thing you'll find is this DVD from MBUSA. It covers all W-164's, except for the 320CDI engine. However, even without the engine coverage, it is well worth the purchase price. There's a heckuva lot of really good stuff on it.

Red face Maintenance Manuals

Have changed the oil on the ML 320CDI. Changed at 10000 miles and the advice on how to remove the engine shrould was right on. Came off w/o problem. What a bueatiful piece of machinery under that plastic!
Now, how to reset the maintence schedule? Tried the holding the R button and turning the ignition off and on. Did not work.
Hate to go to the dealer to have it reset. The A service is quoted at $175!
Lot of money to change oil even when using the Formula M Mobil at $26/gal.
This vehicle continues to amaze me on how good it is.

The attached file is direct from that DVD mentioned in my previous post. Get it. You won't be sorry.

They're burying the maintenance stuff deeper and deeper under things so that the shade tree mechanic can't find it. This'll do it.
