help removing interior trim

I've just taken delivery of a 6 month old ML320 CDi and need to fit my Dashmount car cradle.

The instructions say to remove the lower trim panel (which I assume is the aircon panel) but I can't see how that is done. Obviously I also keen not to damage anything too!

Could anyone point me in the right direction, thanks

Original instructions are here

Open the ashtray, there are two torx (T15 or T20 I believe) screws, one on the left and right side of the ashtray. Remove these and then unclip the climate control panel, starting from the bottom.

Any questions let me know!

BrabusMan, do you actually remove the ashtray, or just move it forward once the torx screws are out?

I was trying to access the leads at the back of the cigarette lighter for a totally unrelated topic...trying to hardwire my V1 radar detector actually, and the grab bars on each side seem to block the ashtray from coming out completely.

The ashtray does come out completly. It takes some work but it does come out. Try removing the climate control panel first (after you have moved the ashtray as far out as possible, w/o removing).

the front cover panel on the ashtray pops off if you pull straight up. then the ashtray pulls out easily. at any rate the climate control panel comes out just fine without taking out the ashtray, just grab the bottom of the panel and pull outward on each side.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try and report back!
