First Service

Hi Guys
Your service experience could be useful for me.
I'll be handing in my Ml320CDI for service soon. So far I have only had one bad experience with the transmission: A few days ago suddenly the power almost dissappeared and it took a long time to reach normal road speed. I pulled over and resetted the car with the key pointing towards the doorhandle.

Overall I think the engine has become more noisy and it has used 3-4 litres of oil over the 10 months since I got the car. I have 23.000km on it now and this will be my first service.
Is there anything I should be aware of or notifying MB about when handing in the car?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, tell them everything. 3-4L in 10 months is extraordinary. I haven't put in half that in 20,000 miles (32 km), though I change oil every 7,500. Not sure if diesels use more though.

Funny you mentioned about the loss of power. I believe this is the limp home mode, and I had the same thing happen to me on my ML500. Very slow to get to speed, and I definitely would NOT have been able to drive on the highway. After I shut down the car and started it back, all was normal. I'm going in for my first service shortly, so I'll be sure to mention this to them.

Any chance your power loss and excessive oil consumption could be related to the Kleemann KD box?

I have almost 8,000 miles on my ML320CDI; and it uses approximately 1/2 qt in 5,000 miles.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies and I will mention all the above when I hand in the car I've only had the Kleemann box for two months or so and therefore I can conclude that the four litre oil consumption has nothing to do with the box, because it has been constant since I got the car (10 months).

Its also hard to say if the tranny issue has anything to do with the box, it happend twice actually and only when I stopped at a traffic signal and was about to drive, there was not much movement- only high throttle and slow accelleration. Its probably a common fault in the 7G- transmission. Besides boxes are not known to give transmission problems. Lets see what they do about it

Did the dealer find the oil and tranny problem? What was it? Thanx

Limp home mode can be caused by a bad sensor in the accelerator pedal assembly. I had the problem with an E320 that would go into limp home mode whenever I floored it, otherwise everything was normal. Stopping the engine and restarting would reset the limp home mode.
