Can't get my car out of 2nd gear.

I have had the typical clunky shifting from 1-2 and 2-1, but now my 06 ML500 occasionally sticks in 2nd. No shifting up or down until you restart the car. I have taken the many TSB's with me to the dealership and so far they have just reset the shifting memory and think that will take care of it. Has anyone had luck having these issues addressed.

Exactly the same thing is happening to mine occasionally, they have flashed the software with the latest two times and after a week it happend again. I will be taking the car in on monday. I'll keep you posted, let me know what your dealer says.

Last night my tranny went amok with all of the above mentioned symptoms (was stuck in 2nd gear) so I took it to the workshop and they had the car overnight. They have changed the valve on the gearbox and everything is back to normal, its a very common problem on thr 7G tranny. I will post the part number as soon as I get the bill. Good luck with yours.

The most common cause of sticking in agear until restart is a intermitantly faulty speed sensor in the transmission valvebody. This will log a fault code in the transmission and also a code in the engine stating to refer to the transmission fault codes.

If it occurs more than once/twice then it needs a new valve body.

valve body

The valve body fixed the 2nd gear sticking, but I still get a very abrupt downshift into 2nd when gradually slowing down. I also get occasional rough shifts from 2-3. The fact that it isn't all of the time tells me that it is a software issue and the tranny is capable of smooth shifting.
