CD tested ML550
Car and Driver tested the ML550 and seemed to like it.

As for the usual question....0-60 was 5.4 seconds and 5-60 was 5.7 seconds.
So you will beat a Porsche Cayenne S (and the X5 will be way behind)
They observed 17 mpg.
But as this is not a sports car...they noted it is very comfortable and quiet.

Seems like an overall positive review. It makes me very envious of the extra horses the 550 has, but gives me something to look forward to when it comes time to trade my 500 in a few years from now. 
5.4 is extremely quick to 60 for a non AMG SUV! Thumbs up to Mercedes on this one!
