Hello.
I have just purchased an ML500 however the previous owner smoked. I can't rid the car of the smell. I have changed A.C. filters, Shampooed interior, used lexol leather cleaner, I have done every trick in the book even tried using coffee beans and BBQ charcoal.
Any other suggestions???????

Dang! From the title of this thread I was hoping he had a ML63 and my advice was going to be roll the windows up next time you do burnouts.

Easy steps to take are to replace all the cabin filters, there two of them I think, not 100% sure on that, but I recall them replacing two of mine during a servicing. I read somewhere on one of these forums about spraying an air freshner or lysol product into the actual air system, removing the cabin filters and then spraying it in, not sure if anyone has done that here or not, was said to cure that old musty smell out.

Try shampooing the carpets and rear trunk area and using febreeze on the headliner. Clean all the windows with a good window cleaner, remember to get the sunroof as well. Next get some Armour All leather cleaner, be sure its the leather cleaner lotion and not actual Armour All, and clean the seats. Use a damp rag to go over the dash, steering wheel, and console. Then leave the car with all the windows down over night. Other than that you will have to just wait for it to air itself out, but I'm thinking the big one will be to get both cabin filters changed.

Google "OZONE GENERATOR SMOKE SMELL". Most hotels use these to get rid of smoke smells in their rooms so if you know someone in the business you might want to try to borrow one for a few hours.

I know it would cost more than it is worth, but have you considered buying a cow hide from a motor trimmer

It has the tanning smell, and if you keep it under a seat or in the loadspace it should help

You also get that luxury new car smell as well as the smoke smell gone
