IPhone as Ipod

I know that the Iphone works as a phone using the handsfree/bluetooth setup in the new ML's.

My question is does it also recognize it as an Ipod if you plug it into the Ipod Integration jack?

As I wait for delivery of my new car, I am certain to have lots of questions. Thanks all in advance.

The iPhone does work with the iPod connector, but if you get a second call it does not show the caller id of the second call. Minor issue, but something to think about.

I got a dash mount holder from Proclip which works very well and I find myself using the iPhone instead of the command system to make and take calls. I need to look into re-routing the connect cable from the glove box to the dash so I can get the best of both worlds.

Cool so you can listen to music through the car stereo stored on the Iphone when it is connected?

you have bluetooth, and don't use the hands free command and the steering wheel controls?

I thought the whole idea was to never have to deal with the phone wile driving.

To answer the first question, yes you can play the music on the iPhone and control it via the iPod integration.

As to the second if MB's command system were as well designed as the iPhone's itself it would be a no brainer. Using the command system to dial a number, let's say my wife. It takes about 6 key presses on the command system or a gazzillion on the steering wheel controls to get her number up and dialed (I have approximately 500 contacts in my phone book). With the iPhone interface I'm dialing her in two clicks. All that time with the command system takes my eyes off the road.

I should note I have a dash mount for my iPhone which puts it right at my finger tips on the upper left hand side of the command console, just to the right of the shift lever. This set up just works better for me since I have all of my business and personal contacts in my iPhone.
