Has anyone bought the 08' style runningboards for their ML??

I have the 06 style (chrome with the two black steps) and being 6'7", I don't like it because my leg does not extend naturally to where the step is since I sit pretty far back. So now I end up trying to step over the big chrome tube. I was going to just take them off (they came with the vehicle), but then I saw the 2008 style (the poka-dot looking ones) and think they look pretty good.

Anybody try adding them to their ML? I'm also wondering if the attachment points would be the same as my 2006. Here is a pic of the ones I have on right now:

Have no idea about the attachment points, etc....

But, I have these on my 07 320CDI. They don't seem to be in the right place for me. I end up stepping, reaching, etc over them to get out.....

YMMV,
Neil.

i installed an 08 style running board myself, i have no idea how your tubular 06 boards mount, but the 08 style bolts directly where the black plastic skirt mounts. it took me around 2 hours per side to install them, lots of bolts involved, but a direct bolt on job, no drilling or modifications required.

Mine came with the boards alreading installed. I was orginially going to get the bars but with the snowboard racks, the boards are more sturdy. And on a black ML the boards look so much better!!!

I had these fitted a couple of weeks ago and I am impressed with them, they look great and now my kids can step up into the car without scrambling all over the place.

I'm looking for those same runningboards, does anyone have link where to get them in US or so? My local dealer haven't replied yet, but I'm pretty sure that it's going to be expensive here

edit: my dealer came up with nice price tag: 910euros! let me know if you find good deals on the parts online so I can order and install myself.

I did some checking into these as well, they are $510 from the part department and you can save yourself the crazy install charges by doing them yourself. If your handy with a socket wrench or screw driver I'm sure you could do it from what I've been reading.

By the way, just for fun to test them out, I stood on them in the show room and sort of jumped up and down, they held ha ha.

Where'd you find them for $510...I've been looking every where and the local dealers have quoted me around $800 for the boards + install

BRUNO...how good are you with cars...I'm contemplating doing the install myself (if I get the boards for a decent price)...what tools did you need to install the boards?

The prices I was quoted were way more than $510 also. If I could get them for that, I would do it.

blazinginder....

there was a thread about runningboards install here, i dont have the link though, seem like "scandria" posted it.

the runningboards dont come with installation instructions.

they comprise of 2 main components, the one you see with aluminum and rubber studs, underneath that, there is a solid piece of aluminum which is the frame that attaches to the cars body.

takes 2 hours per side to install, there are many screws and nuts involved.

tools: Screwdriver (to pry clips), Socket Wrench, Torx Screw Driver.

Thanks...I'll try to look it up, seems like it wouldn't be so bad to DIY..yet not so clear cut with all the bolts etc that would need to be screwed in etc

The MBUSA build your own site has them listed for $510. The chrome ones with the steps in them are $800. Be sure they know exactly which ones you are talking about, they are now also standard on ML550's. If push comes to shove, have them pull up the website and show them that the website says $510 and you want them to match that.

I will say though that all accessories seem to be going up in price. The all weather mats for C class cars were $90 bucks in September but for some unknown reason (winter weather season maybe) they jumped up to $110 in December.

i got my runningboards for around US$1500 uninstalled.

blazing....

first, u have to remove the plastic push pins on the front and rear wheelwells that holds the existing plastic sideskirts (this is the hardest part). then open both front and rear doors, pry with a screwdriver the sideskirts until it snaps out. Once the sideskirts are removed, there are two plastic brackets which are held by nuts onto the car's body, remove this.

replace them with the solid aluminum frame of the runningboards (around 10 nuts), then replace the old jacking points with new ones which are thicker. under the aluminum frame,on the car's underside, u have to install a plastic cover which you will have to secure also with nuts, around 10 pcs again. Once done, u snap in the exterior runningboards (aluminum with rubber dots) onto the solid aluminum frame, it is only held i think by two torx screws. Install push pins onto wheel wells and you're done.

all in all, one side will comprise of 3 components. the exterior running boards, the solid aluminum frame, underside plastic cover.

search a forum member: scandria or sciandria...he posted pics and detailed install instructions.

install is easy, but i did have sore fingers after since even with a ratchet, the nuts were not that easy to tighten.

The build your own website is for options and accessories that are ordered or paid for on a new car. I think you will find that the parts departments at the dealers will be very high.

Yeah I was wondering that, now that everyone else is getting higher quotes. The $510 price is for when you order it, as a factory option. I ran into that when I was looking into R class options, they had an option for 19'' wheels at $1000 bucks, but only if you added them at the time of production. Check with your parts department, but I will assume the running boards are the same way, sorry for the confusion.

I'm amazed that it takes 2 hours PER SIDE to install?! The ones I have on now are just 2 bolts for each side (though they are pretty heavy duty looking bolts). Should take about 10 minutes to get them off. I'm a little worried that my 06 won't have the same attachment points for the newer style boards.

I will see what outrageous price my dealer wants for the boards.....

I take delivery on my 2008 ML320 tomorrow. I have every option on mine. Sadly tho it didn't have running boards so I was deciding weather on not to add them or not. I thought to put them on cause you do them only once and they look nice. They came to about $1300 for me but I live in Canada. They didn't have stock so it should be in by Wednesday. I will post pictures when I get them installed. They quoted me about 4 hour labour to get them done.

what about the steel bumper things i think of road package do you guys know if they sell that at the dealer oor u have to get it with the car.
Mreus how much are u asking for your boards and why dont you like them?
