anyone know how to turn DOWN the fan on the defroster

every damm time i turn on the defroster for the front windshield, the fan comes on like a category 4 hurricane... FULL BLAST!!!! i try to hit the fan control to reduce the force but to no avail.... is this just the way it is on the ML or is there a problem with the fan controller??? this is my wife's suv and she say's it's always behaved this way.... can be... sounds wrong (at least non of my cars every had full force defrosting without some kind of fan control)

Mine does the same thing. It seems to be the only option as I haven't found a way to turn it down either.

Seems to be a default. Every MB I've had has been like this. Usually, once the job is done well enough, I'll use the manual adjustments to get a better airflow and temp.

i usually just turn the temp dial up to 75 and manually push the button to push the air through the top vents only and adjust the fan speed accordingly

Most cars do that. My X5 prior to the Benz did it.

Why do you use deFROST if you don't have ice on your window??

My question also! The hi fan speed is to clear the windshield as quickly as possible. After that you can manually direct airflow at any fan speed you like.

Judging by the way my E350 fogs up it needs the full blast but I also find it frustrating. Especially if your heat is on a higher temp. Your eyeballs bake.

It seesm all German cars a re like this. My wife's X5 does it, my Audi A6 did it as well. American cars let you adjust the speed.

let's try first with automatic sensor: keep windows and sunroof closed(especially during rain, because humidity and cold is the one that makes your windows foggy), make sure that you have air condition on(A/C button) and have warm temperature selected. If this is not enough, let's go for manual: A/C on, relatively warm temp, select ventilation for "up". Finally select your desired ventilation speed. This should do it

Defrost is meant to be used only for short periods of time, for example: windows are covered with ice or it's very humid in- or outside: you come in to your car with e.g. wet clothes or some snow in your shoes.

Hope this helps!
