W164 Issues

I had dinner with a member of the dealer service support team at the Vance assembly plant last week. In our discussions, the following items came up:

1.) They are working on what they hope is a solution to all hard shifting and gear wandering problems with the 7G-Tronic transmission. It will not be available until September at the earliest.

2.) They do not, as yet, have a solution for the Air-Matic Suspension compressor failures. They have been able to extend the time before failure; but not completely eliminate it. As a result, he recommends to new buyers that they do not order Air-Matic on any new cars at this time; unless the owner is prepared for expensive repairs after the warranty expires.

Interesting!

WHAT???? OK, Mine has the Airmatic and 7G tranny. All I know is Mercedes will be covering any issues I have with this for a long time...That's why courts were invented.
Why offer these options if they are failure prone???

I got a brake failure on the street due to the notorious SBC in my ex-W211.

I really don't know WHY MB launched such a fatal SBC to endanger her fans' lives.
( SBC was discontinued by MB in mid 2006, YES!!!)

SBC was perfected for the last models. Warranty is extended for 10 years, too.

I think Mercedes discontinued it

1. to send a message to Bosch

2. as part of decontenting to cope with falling value of dollar.

Brake pedal feel is one of my two major dislkes with GL. It thoroughly sucks.

I only wish the pedal felt as solid as that in our SBC-equipped E-class.
