is it tire noise or something else????
over the past 2wks, the ML500 has started with this low roaring, yet very annoying sound. i thought maybe it was the tires, they're conti-contacts and only have 6000miles on them, but they weren't rotated yet.
so.. took the ML in this morning for a tire rotation, yet that same low toned roaring sound remains. it seems to get louder and louder as i drive further and further. my wife says after about 30miles shes about to go nuts.
the tires are eveningly worn, i don't think it's tranny... she swears it's coming from the engine
any ideas

I have contacts on my 06 ML500 and no such noise. The mentioned wheel bearing would really surprise me as its not an issue. Likely its something else so have the dealer check it out and be certain he drives it with you to hear what you are complaining about.

well a roaring sound at 6000 miles is really surprising, but things happen. from what i know roaring can be caused by various moving parts in a car ....so a wheel bearing might or might NOT be one of the causes, sosh is playing as an all knowing god in here again.

As I said it is unlikely that its a wheel bearing. If I were in fact the "all knowing god" I would have given a much more definitive answer. Could also be a bad or damaged belt in the one of the tires. (Pothole???).

I agree with sosh that it is unlikely that the wheel bearings have worn down, that usually happens at over 140.000 miles, as it did on my previous W211.
I think your wife is right, most likely they noise could be comming from the engine compartment, it could be so many things eg. waterpump, belt, lose engine cover etc etc. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it
