Any negative differences going from 19" to 20" wheels?

My ML came stock with 19" wheels. I am about to purchase some new wheels and can't decide between 19's or 20's. Can anyone tell me if there will be a difference in ride quality or handling if I go to 20's. Also, is there an increased risk for road hazards or damage to the wheels with the 20's?

Thank you.

Yes, all of the above.

Plus
tires will cost more
Wet/snowy road traction will be reduced
Fuel economy will be reduced

just fyi, all the negatives he posted are very minimal.

cost of tires, depending on which brand you will find that it will either be the same price as a 19" size, slightly more, or even less if you go with a somewhat generic brand like kumho, or general. go look at tirerack.com
hell, i have 22" oz canyon wheels with 285/35/22 tires. and tires can be as low as $185 each.

wet/snowy traction.. if this is such a concern, then you should be going down to the smallest diameter allowable which would be 17" to get better traction in the wet/snow.

fuel economy will be reduced slightly. 1-3 mpg on average.

imho, if you want to go larger go ahead and do it.

well to be totally honest, 20 inch tires are much cheaper than 19's, the 20 inch tire is a much more common size.
