I'm back!

Two LR3's later I have just bought my first diesel.. a 2009 ML320 TDi Bluetec. I pick it up Monday.

I have a few 1questions. The car is "Capri blue", but MB Canada does not have that colour. And the interior is "Charcoal leather twin", but MB's site says they only have this car with fake leather. Which is it?

MBUSA apparently believes Americans can't deal with the color names Mercedes uses in the rest of the world so often invents new names for the exact same colors for the USA market. (Color numbers BTW do not change) For example, my GL paint is called Desert Silver but was called Travertine Beige elsewhere.

"Leather twin" is Mercedes-speak for leather sitting surfaces and the rest in vinyl.

Excellent - thanks.

Odd. Leather Twin is not apparently offered by MB Canada on the 320. So how come I have it on mine? All MB offer is leather or fake leather ("man-made leather", they describe it as).

Building quite a few of these here lately so they should be getting readily available at the dealers.

Good thing. I am looking forward to getting mine on Monday.

Just odd about the colour, and a shame about vinyl - the dealer now tells me the inventory status note was wrong and I have fake leather ("Artico Leather").

I feel the words "Artico leather" are misleading, to the extent that this should not be legally allowed. Artico "leather" is NOT leather. Like selling a Zirconia as "a Zirtoco Diamond", or selling plated silver as "Argentico Gold". Not that I want to gripe, but on this point I feel like I have been cheated.

On all other points, I will be happy to be back with a Mercedes. My last cars have now been:
  • 10 BMWs, followed by...
  • 4 Mercedes-Benz's (C, E, and then 2 MLs), followed by...
  • Two Land Rover LR3s...
  • and now a Diesel ML320.

+1

For the longest time I thought it was another type of leather, like Napa leather or Connelly leather. It is, admittedly, a good fake, but it should still be called something other than "leather". Then again, I doubt "Mercedes Fake Leather" would sell many cars.

They used to call the vinyl "Tex". It is a good material and has a leather like appearance and somewhat of a leather feel but its not leather and there is no substitute for leather.

The Dutch would call this "Boerenbedrog": peasants' cheating. If it is not leather, they should not be allowed to call it that.

Of course they can do what they want, but even before I pick up my car, I already feel cheated.
