The point-and-click wheel shown in the video is from the new C/GLK (NTG4 COMAND).

Nice! And as I said, the BMW wheel, which this apparently emulates, is better than the current COMAND, however awful it is. This interface is better by the looks o fit but it will not be good. "good" is "one button per function" like in an airplane (I fly those too - Cessnas), OR it has tp be very intuitive.

And.. Youtube in the car? Mmm.

Thanks for the link!

Tschuss,
Michael

On my 06 ML500 - What drives me crazy is for Navigation you can't use the keypad to enter an address, you've got to use the on screen keyboard. For anybody used to sending SMS messages, it would be so much quicker if you could use the COMAND keypad.

FYI When I had my Nokia phone connected in the cradle SMS messages would appear on the COMAND, but now I have a Blackberry connected via Bluetooth SMS messages no longer appear.

Other gripes:

Why a 99 song limit on an MP3 CD?
It would be good to be able to see a list of tracks on an MP3 CD
Not to mention all sorts of other MP3 features such as play lists, play by genre etc

But I love the fact that at daylight savings I can adjust the clock simply via COMAND rather than much slower in some other cars (inc my Audi)

That's useful, but it is still bad English. I have come up with acronyms like that too, in my time!

OK, if the new myCOMAND works like the one in that video, including VOIP, I will be a buyer of the second year model that has it.

Hey guys, just to chime in...

- mwillens, I'm with you man. I've used the the '09 Comand and it's horrible. If MB was updating the ML, why not just go to the same version of the Comand in the C , GLK, and S? Or, if that was too much, then at least instead of the silly four button thing, make that a wheel that works like the other version. Pressing those buttons up and down and sideways a million times is retarded.

- Remember the annoucement back in June of last year about Apple developing a nav system for MB? (http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/17/a...-for-mercedes/) I wonder if MyComand has anything to do with that?

- I always struggled with touchscreen vs. wheel. On the one hand I found Lexus' and Infiniti's systems very intuitive because they are touchscreen. However, Audi's and Hyundai's are wheel-based and both incredibly easy to use. With that said, Lexus just introduced the 1020 RX350 at the LA Auto Show yesterday. And, they are moving away from touchscreen to a kinda-sorta-wheel. Here's a pic:

It looks like wheel (or some sort of mouse-like device) is the way to go. AND, you know Lexus has done it's homework on this one.

In the meantime I'll continue to schedule an additional 10 minutes of driving time for any meeting where I need to enter a destination on the nav. Gotta love that knob!!!!

Jose

Yes..it is very user..

friendly...we have been training on the system for the last 4 weeks...The 2010 Lexus RX350 will be out around the 3rd week in January....l have to say over-all, l am quite impressed with the RX...could be an alternative for me in the future..My 06 ML350, for the most part has been reliable, but l still don't like the Comand system..(as mentioned..not user-friendly) the navigation system is an embarassment !!!!! l also wish , that the rear seats had the capability of reclining for added comfort on longer trips...Just small things..

And I just found out that the 2009 ML has a slot for an SD memory card.

So I went and bought one. Turns out I waste my money: I bought a 16 GB card but the car only accepts old technology cards, up to just 2 GB.

That is like four years old, in a 2009 car.

These Germans are really, really brain dead.
