All Season Tires, need recommendation

Got 2 screws in one of the Conti 4x4s. One of the other tires was repaired last year. They only have 11,000 miles on them but they are wearing fast and they are proving terrible in cold rain conditions and snow.

Given its mid February I don't want to buy dedicated winter wheels and tires. Can anybody recommend a good all season tire to replace the 255/50/19 Contis?

All season tires aren't, as you've discovered.

Even the ML is autobahn tested and is consequently equipped with and designed for performance--not long-mileage--tires.

Recommend you stay with MO-rated tires, which are probably just Conti, Michelin, or Pirelli.

I just went with Nokian WR G2s as all season. They are GREAT (but very pricey)

+1

Nokians are the only all-season that qualify to show the snowflake symbol. I have had them on my dog's PT Cruiser for four years -- they grip just like any other snow tire in winter but give pretty good summer mileage/wear as well. Just a tad noisy. And $$$...

I like the Conti 4X4 that were oem on my 06 ML500. Great in the snow, wet and dry. Very quiet. Now have 25K on them and based upon remaining tread they should run 40 to 45 K. Do not think thats low mileage. If I had to replace them at this time I would duplicate what I have

Will these wheels work

So I am thinking I may only be happy with dedicated winter tires.

1) Will these 17in rims from an 2006 ML fit?

2) Will 18 in GL wheels fit ?

The 17 inch wheels are preferable since the tires are less expensive.

I got Bridgestone Alenzas. They are a little rougher than the Michelin Latitudes that came with my ML350 which I like. I didn't like the mushy ride.
