I have an '09. It is the first vehicle I have ever had without an 'off' switch for the radio. Yes, you can use the Mute function, but it is psychologically unsettling not to have a way to turn off the radio without switching off the whole Comand.

BTW, if you mute sound when an in-vehicle recording is playing, does the recording stop? I suspect not; I'll have to check later today.

Yes the mute acts as a "pause" button on recorded media.

So the navi would be muted too ?

I think may be a way to turn off the radio is turn off the Comand, then turn on the navi only, by hitting the Nav button.

i played around a bit yesterday. muting the radio doesn't mute the nav. similar to how lowering the radio volume doesn't lower the nav volume either. so mute is really the way to go
