Looking to purchase 07 ML500, advice?
So I see this 2007 ML500 with about 50k miles on it going for around $50,000 CDN (I think I can get it down to $45,000) . I'm VERY interested in the car. I've test driven it, and it feels planted and rock solid. Lots of power, and very quiet.
My only gripe is that it's got 50k miles already. It's more than I would've wanted, but then this is one awesome SUV. They also have some ML350s with less mileage, but around the same price. Should I get those instead?
Also what are some of the issues I should be wary of? I've had a 2000 ML320 in the past, and that was a piece of junk. I heard they changed this with the second generation ML.
And what's the resale value of this thing after 3-5 years? MB will supposedly be coming out with the 3rd gen ML in 2011. That'll probably make this one hard to sell...

I just traded my 06 ML500 for a 2010 ML550.The ownership experience was wonderful and I hope the new one is as good. So far it is. As for an 07, its essentially the same as the 06 and should be no problem. My 06, in fact other than an adjustment of the rear hatch latch when new had not one issue. When traded it had 30000 miles and the dealer sold it the next day. On the new 550 I miss a couple of the items that they removed from the ML such as easy exit seat movement, rear HVAC controls. The new one seems to be quicker and a little smoother but thats only my perception. As for a 350, they are a dime a dozen and do not offer anywhere near the performance of the 500 or 550. This 2010 is my 4th ML; 98 320, 2002 500, 2006 500 and the 2010 550. Good luck you should enjoy it.

Strongly disagree with you. The 98 ML320 Ihad for about 4 years was just fine, the 02 ML500 had some issues but my competent dealer stayed on top of them with no inconvience to me, the 06 ML500 I just traded had zero issues and was bullet proof the 10 ML550 has been wonderful so far but only had it a month. No excessive maint costs, lots less to maintain than my last US, GM car.

I just bought a 2007 ML 500 with 12K miles on it. I paid 39k for it. It has the factory warranty on it until 8/10. It was CPO which extended it another year as well as 100K miles. We added an additional 2 years (3 total) in coverage for about 3k. So far so good with the car. The only thing it didn't have was the leather seating surfaces.. It did have the rear entertainment system as well as the P2 package. Nice car over all - some scratches but overall in great shape. It is my wife's car and when I drove it my thoughts were - something this big and tall shouldn't be able to go this fast. About yours, Personally I think the price is a little high - compared to what we bought.

The car's when new MSRP was about 60K. The price of the car included the CPO for 1 year. Extended it out for an additional 2 year (39K + 3K = 42K). Bought the car in Chicago (We live in Indianapolis, IN). Previous owner owned/leased the car in NY state. I agree the resale value will value based on where you are buying - if you are willing to look beyond where you live - you can get a good deal.
Good point about the equipment - the price of the car can be different based on the level of equipment (Mine had the P2 Package as well as the rear entertainment package, No leather or Airmatic suspension). The original poster didn't mention what the car had on it.
The exchange rate on the canadian dollar is 1:0.942685. Which if my math is right - works out to 53K US dollars. At 45K - that is 47.7k dollars. That is a little high for me - no matter how much equipment is on it.
