OEM Ipod interface/Iphone

OEM Ipod interface/Iphone
The wifes Iphone will not charge via the OEM interface kit... all other functions work great though. To solve this, I am looking at this Griffin converter.
Can anyone comment if this will solve the problem and allow her Iphone to charge via the OEM integration kit?

Would the Giffin product work? For $20, I'd rather just purchase it and keep her car out the dealer...

Depends how long the part was on their shelf, or how long ago the parts were packaged by the PDC.
I have no experience with that, but it reads as if it converts the old ipod's that charged via firewire, so as it reads, I don't think it would work.

... so you have an 07 ML350 with the OEM iPod interface and this allows the plug in the govebox to charge the iPhone?

Is the "iPod Integration Kit" even necessary? It's not clear to me how much functionality comes standard with the vehicle versus what the iPod Integration Kit does. The media interface cables (i.e. USB) in the glovebox are standard?
I placed an order for a 2010 W164 this week - worried I should have included the iPod kit.

iPod (and kit) aside for a minute, if I plug-in a USB stick, into the standard base vehicle, it still:
1. Shows title/artist info metadata on Command screen? Instrument cluster screen too?
2. Allows navigation (next/previous) and navigation of subfolders (if there are any)?
Some of this changed/improved from 2009 onwards? Am I confusing the functionality of the SD card slot with the USB cable?
Lots of questions, but I'm trying to determine if ignoring the iPod kit would be an expensive mistake to fix (similar to not opting for the factory trailer hitch.)

Oops - seems I overlooked that the iPod integration kit is now part of package P1, so I don't need to agonize over that choice. I thought it was still on the a la carte Options page.

TOM TOM and NAVIGON GPS on iPhone
I recently installed TOM TOM and NAVIGON on my iPhone which got me thinking of a new project for the ML. I hated the OEM iPod interface for many reasons which also made me do this.
The first 3 pics are of the iPhone and the last one is my iPod, I used a OEM dock from Apple which comes with a remote and helps a bit in changing tracks too! ! ! But the best thing is I can play music from my iPhone and get directions and also take calls at the same time!!
