Why not just purchase MB running boards if you must have them. I do have them and wish I did not. Find myself stepping over them and my wife finds them making entry/exit much more difficult. They were standard on my ML550 I do not reccommend any running boards.

I heard that the running-boards do get your pants dirty whenever you are stepping down and out of the vehicle. Is that true??

I dont find them that bad, you are aware that they are there, but in my wifes case, we have a 26 mth old boy and a 5mnth old girl with the baby seat and we find using these when getting the kids out has saved our backs big time, so, in our case they are a positive...btw, when I ordered my wifes 09ML350, it did not come with them, so I ordered them through our MB dealer and installed there as well..not worth the hastle for me to run around and find knock-offs and deal with fitment or quality issues, this way they are warrantied through Mercedes.

I can't see the advantage for a 5 month old however the older child may be able to step in on his/her own. I also find as does my wife that the entire foot cannot fit on the running board and thus makes it useless to even to try to step in using it. And, yes if the running boards are not clean your pants will come away with a mark unless you are very careful. In addition the aluminum is quite hard to clean as dirt gets embedded in it.

If you step out of the vehicle close to them you will. I get dirt on my pants every once and a while getting out of my Ram.

In regards to the 5mnth old, when lifting her in her 20lb seat to click into the seat craddle, using that step is a HUGE back saver, otherwise you are lifting her way up and putting undue stress on your spine.

That all sounds great but the running boards are not wide enough to plant your foot on them without twisting it around to parrallel the car. Very unwieldy. Guess you would rather have a twisted ankle than a bad back. Get a lighter seat and put your kid on a diet!!

Thanks Pharaoh, for understanding and backing me up, Sosh tried to put some humour into this but failed miserably. Sosh, if you dislike them so much and render them useless, take them off and sell them to the OP AlfredML, that way you both are satisfied.

I did consider removing them, however its a bigger deal than one would expect. As for my sense of humor, perhaps you should fine tune yours and yes I am kidless.

Figures about the kidless....only parents would understand the small convenience these running boards do pose.

I'm planning to get them on our next service date. Can you tell me how much did you pay?

2010 ML550 stainless steel running boards

Hello everyone! I'm looking to replace my running boards with an OEM, but I'd very much like to avoid the extra costs involved with the dealer. Can anyone be kind enough to offer suggestions? Thanks in advance!
