Question ML350 BlueTEC - purchase help

Hi all!

I'm coming off lease of my 2008 ML350. I'd like to buy a 5-seat SUV for our 3y/o child and dog - something we can drive for many, many years. I was hoping to get your opinions on our choices:

1. Our 2008 ML350: Great vehicle, good fit for us. Priced below market, but 30k miles and 3 1/2 years behind it.

2. 2010 ML350 BlueTEC: Diesel seems smart, and I like the torque. Can get a great deal but still pushing our finances.

3. Lexus 450h - Really liked the interior refinement and the ride (comfy and decent performance, though a tad slushy). Good fit for us, but maybe too elegant. (Did I mention our 3y/o child and dog?) Hybrid seems like a great choice but, again, this push our finances.

Any thoughts appreciated!

so you need to decide between #1 & #3? 2008 ML vs Lexus?

Actually, all 3 options are still on the table. Either new vehicle would push our finances, but I guess that is always a factor.

Also, I've been digging a little more into the run-flat issue, and it is a little discouraging. I'm guessing the 2010 ML350 will burn through tires just as our 2008 ML350 has, and those run-flats aren't cheap or easy to get. Plus, I think I'd feel a little nervous going on long trips knowing that I could get stranded (at my hotel or wherever) waiting to find a run-flat replacement. I also have friends who have had run-flats, including on the ML, and do not like the ride as much. So, the BlueTEC is fading as an option . . .

Still, all opinions welcome.

Keep your current vehicle if it's serving you well and doesn't have issues. I don't see the point of getting a new one if you know for a fact it's going to stretch your budget.

agree, i'd stay with the current ML, unless the new lease (450h) is less burden financially.

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
I'd avoid a hybrid if you plan to keep it a long time.

I know that comparing a 2008 and 2010 is pretty much useless, but I just bought a 2010 ML350BT for my wife and we both love it. Never drove the 2008 model but I'm pretty sure you will love your ML all over again with the 2010 model. Or wait for the 2011 that will have blindspot assist and LED running lights, etc.

Thanks for all your help, everyone! We decided to buy 2008 off lease. If you had asked me 3 years ago if I would have done this, the answer would have been 'no way'. (thus, the lease instead of a purchase). but the vehicle is just a solid fit for us. looking forward to a decade more of driving!
