Ebay HID kit installed

It worked great for our c230 so I thought why not. Using capacitors from radio shack for $11 shipped and $38 H7 4300K ebay kit shipped, can't beat it! I could've gone with Mtec but I'm cheap. Since it worked on our w203 I thought why not give it a try? Our kit on w203 lasted two yrs before one of the ballast went out but who cares replacement was only $20 back then. Beam pattern is identical, it looks oem so I'm satisfied. Enjoy the pics.

Total spent: less than $50! No flickering... no error msgs...

Sorry for bad quality pics. These were taken with iphone. Should've used a digital camera. Glare doesn't appear as bad as it look on pics.

For reference... on our w203:

Flame suit on...

Man W164 section here is dead lol...

Some one asked for a diy so here's a partial diy. Installation in terms of adding capacitors is located in this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...es-models.html

I buy my kit from this guy on ebay: hqz4321
I've been buying from him since 2004 and happy with quality of the kits. They used to be $90 when I started buying them but now same kits go for $37!

Note: on my ML positive was yellow wire and brown was ground. Make sure you don't mix them up!
You can just do it as outlined above with wire sticking out on the side of the cover but it'll give you condensation in your headlights. So this is what I did. I cut all of the wires, pulled the wires from dust plug, insert wires from bulb through h7 adaptor, then pushed them through 'dust plug' and finally reattached using speaker wire connectors. Next step: I drilled a hole just big enough for rubber 'dust plug' to be seated on the cover as shown here.

Once these are in I applied some silicon sealant between 'dust plug' and plastic cover to ensure no moisture gets in.

W164 uses identical H7 adaptor as the ones used in W211. There are few things to add to this. One being is that the adaptor is a b!tch to put on. The bulbs need to go in 'upside down' meaning the glass tube part need to be under the outside wire part. I try to put it on for over an hour and after some bloody knucles I found out it needs to go in this way.

Now all you need to do is to plug them in and fire 'em up!

Here are some better quality pics:
