You can't

Trust me, I really wish I was wrong on this: You can't rip audio CD's to the hard-drive/music-register. I'm assuming its MB's way of playing it safe in terms of copy protection liability.

You can definitely copy MP3's from a SD memory card, which is what I do. I've ripped all my music to iTunes anyway so its not a big deal. You might be able to copy MP3's from an MP3 CD - I haven't tried that yet and don't really have reason to because its much easier to just use a 2GB SD card rather than a 650MB CD.

Yes it sucks, yes its almost unbelievable considering its 2010 and the competition allows it. Ironically I read somewhere that about a competitor brand that ONLY allows you to rip from CD, but not copy MP3 files to their music register. I guess everyone has their definition of what's legally "safe".

Thanks for the quick reply...yea it is interesting that my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee allows me to rip CDs directly to the hard drive. The Jeep system being a touch screen is a lot more user friendly.

I really need to step up and get an Ipod...I can use that with both vehicles.

I agree with bruntoj about using SD cards. Much the simplest solution. But don't go buying cards larger than 2GB -- the system won't support them.
