ML Rear facing car seat

My neighbor has an issue with installing his rear facing baby seat in his 08 ML CDI.
He does as it says in the manual and by the car seat manufacture, but the seat is still loose to the point where if an accident occurs, the results would be bad.
He also went by the dealer and also our local Police Station where a certified Officer for car seats was on duty.
End result is that everyone agrees that the seat does not remain strapped tight enough to be safe.
The Officer advised that this is common with these ML's due to the angle of the bench seat(?)

Just want to see if any members had a fix/solution or good ideas to help out or if this is a common issue.
The last time I had to use a baby seat was 16 years ago so I am not much help.

Only solution is to try a different car seat, some have angle adjustment to adapt to different cars. I have recaro, expensive but good quality.

I have a 08 ml350 and i agree that the base is a little loose, but in case of an accident, when you slam the brakes, the seat belt locks and the base gets tight and doesnt move. I tested it.
