2007 320 CDI Brake Light Message
My Wifes 2007 ML320 CDI has a right hand brake light warning message popping up in the inst display
I have removed all the brake light globes and checked them with a multi meter and all seem OK
One looked like it had slight carbonising on the socket contact, which I cleaned with some very fine sandpaper but the the error and problem persists
any ideas or known common faults?

Just go to MB and they should fix it for free (it's 30 min work)..

Mine did the same, but my dealer wanted +-$250 to repair both sides. Do you have any info on the recall? I never got a letter.
FYI, It is something to do with the ground wires back there.

The rule No 1 what you have to rememeber is to have 'buddy' (or somebody to take care of you when you get this kind of problem) in MB.

Brake Light Actuator
I am installing brake light repair kits to fix the connection problem. I have measured 13+V at pin #5 in the original connector, and 11 V in some of the other connectors.
Can anybody confirm that pin #5 is the stop light actuator?

I had the same problem as others are describing. In effort not to have to rewire the light, I dremel tool the housing ever so slightly and embry boarded the actual socket connectors. That worked for a few days. Seeing other posts about the lack of solid connection, I shimmed the connectors with a cut down plastic coffee stir. One underneath, the other long ways. Laugh if you will, never had another problem. Worked perfectly. The best I can tell is the design does not allow solid contact over time causing the problem. Bending the connectors alone won't give the pressure to maintain the contact. You have to shim the connectors to ensure solid contact to the housing. I also put bulb grease on the housing after cleaning it to help avoid future concern. As I say, it has worked fine ever since. Good luck!
