Question Batery icon on

Batery sign on the display stays on.Just cleaned terminals on the batery and charged it overnight but did not help. Also when I start the car, fuel and RPM gauges go down and up 4-5 times for some reason.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
The battery

icon is a misnomer. Really means something is wrong with the charging circuit.
Alternator,voltage regulator,slipping or broken belt.
Check it out before it checks you out

miles in the gauge, key inserted, 3 times R button rapidly and you will get a engineering menu, up and down until you see the volt of your batter...if it's not about 14 V...alternator doesn't work

And something else that he would fix for about $300. He also said that there is nothing to be wurried about but in the longrun it could cause the gearbox to act wierd.

I dont know if its any help but i'm going to him next week to try fix this.

Just replace the battery. You are wasting your time and energy by charging it.

Removing/replacing secondary battery?

Is it easy to replace (or remove for recharging) the secondary battery? I also have the white battery symbol, but only in winter months, Dec-April, I assume because of the cold.

My dealer said this battery was needed to shift into neutral if the main battery is dead. He also said it was a three hour labour cost to remove the front seat and replace the secondary battery...

Thanks for any advice.

^^^^^ see if this helps, you should be able to do the battery change yourself

I understand you do not have to remove the seat, just move it forward and up as high it will go, this should give you enough access
