Hot ML350 Bluetec

Well, I drove home from work this evening (about 25 miles) averaging about 60 mph. When I pulled into the garage I got out of of my ML and my wife and I both noticed a burning smell (kinda like burning plastic). Anyhow, also noticed the fan running for the radiator. I started the vehicle back up, and viewed the temp (running about 90 degreed C) which I guess is about normal but not real sure for a diesel. I lifted the hood and the smell didn't seem to be radiating from there, however as I got toward the back of the vehicle I could smell it more. So it's still a mystery at this point. Anyone else notice this ?

Thanks !

it's the anti particulate filter that was regenerating...it usually makes a big white smoke and smeel a lot of burned plastic

Stesl is spot-on. It's the diesel particulate burn-off. It smells like your seat heaters have ignited but is quite normal.

His 2019 RAM Cummins Turbo Diesel Laramie; Her's 2007 ML320 CDI P3; Mine BMW R1200R
On mine I had that smell once or twice early on. Turns out it was the DPF doing its thing. I think there is a coating on it or maybe oils from handling it during assembly that burns off. After that never had the smell again.
Common complaint for new owners after a highway drive. Good thing is you probably will never notice it again.

Well I have an ML350 blue tec 2012 model! There is this white huge smoke that comes out at least every three days! I know about the dpf but mine seem different and a bit embarrassing. Is the huge smoke normal? Any help please?
