ML 350 lighting package. Worth it over standard?

Firstly, thanks for taking a look.

Considering an ML...have two available one with, and one without. Do you guys think it's worth getting the lighting package, or are the standard lights tollerable?

TIA.

for me it was a matter of safety. the Xenon's make night driving much more safe - so much more clear / easy to see. since this would be my wife's car and she would be driving the kids around, it was a no brainer.

and...the lighting package comes with LED tail lights which look nicer.

the expense is really so minimal compared to what you get. i don't have it now, so don't consider me biased...

i don't really care for the LED DRLs but nonetheless, next ML i will get it hands down.

I'm going with factory xenons. Hopefully the car is available and my dealer can allocate it. I've found from going from xenons to standard really sucks. Once you go xenon it's hard to go back.

At least on the ML there's a package that doesn't require you to buy a huge amount of options like the P2 on the W212.

Thanks for your advice!

It all depends on what you like. I think the LED strip looks really nice and would be tough to retrofit later. The HID's you can always get an aftermarket kit of you really want for alot less than the lighting package, but then you wouldn't get the LED strip, headlight washers, or LED tail. Personally I would just get the lighting package.

The lighting package is pretty impressive. I really love the LED fogs.

not to mention aftermarket HID kits stuck into a halogen housing completely suck.

The SUV is roughly +$50k, another $1000 is irrelevant for what you get.

I have the lighting package and the only disappointment is the rear led turn signal. I know there are amber/yellow leds so why are the rear turn signals red?

My dealer was able to secure an ML350 4m for me. It should be at the dealership hopefully in a week.

Iridium/MB Tex
P1
Lighting Package
Trailer Hitch
Running Boards
Rear Entertainment pre-wire (useless for my needs)
Heated Front Seats

Thanks again for the info.

hey guys sorry to dig up this old thread but this may the best place to ask a question re xenons.

i had a basic 06 ml350 which i used to tow my race car. worked great except the stock spring suspension would sag in rear and the halogen headlites would point to sky. terrible visibility in rain.

traded to ml63 amg and fixed the prob- self levelling air suspension and the bi xenon lights also self level (i think).

presently i may not be able to keep the ml63 so i'm looking to trade back to an ml320 cdi or ml350. here's the question- do you think the bi-xenons have enough self leveling range to focus normally if the back was loaded with trailer? i realize i'm not quantifying the angles- let's say the non xenon lights would point to the roof of another ml when 3-4 car lenghts apart. i would prefer not to deal with airmatic to level due to possible expense if it goes bad.

thx.

edit found a pix- its not as bad as i described. LMK if bi xenons can level this angle ?

When I have to switch cars, from Bi-Xenon to halogen, I swear the halogen lights are turned off. The Xenon's are THAT much better.
Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Buy the Bi-Xenon headlights. That's my final answer.
By the way, get the good Bi-Xenon headlights.

I am annoyed that I bought a shopping trolley for the wife, and decided it will only be driven in the daylight so we don't need Xenons.

Never again - all cars will be Xenons or preceded by a man waving a red flag.

Get the lighting package else you will always regret it everytime you see an ML with the sweet LED DRL!!!!
Plus safety first, the xenons really light up the road....you're driving a MB, don't cheapen up over a few hundred bucks.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I don't want to start a new one.

I've been shopping around for an '09 ML350 and considering Lighting package.
I've narrowed down to two candidates and based on the pictures of these two different cars, does it seem that both A and B have lighting package? When I spoke with the sales both said yes, but I wanted to be 100% sure and not just taking their words.
TIA

Also looking at other pictures of both cars, they don't seem to have neither LED tail lights nor headlight washers.
I thought bixenon headlights only came with lighting package which should include LED and washers? TIA for your thoughts and comments.

Also if anyone in Dallas had experience with these two dealers please chime in. They are Auto Source and Gallery Motorcar.

I don't care about thee LED taillights but ALL BiXenons MUST have headlight washers BY LAW!!!

These are not Lighting packages!

the LED string is part of Xenons, but not until 2011 model year. So, the absence of the LED lights means nothing on an '09.

any MB dealer can look up a vehicle via VIN and it will show exactly what options were delivered on the car from the factory.

eeferber, what I meant was LED tail lights, not the front string.
I think it's pretty clear that none of these cars do have lighting package.

But then again I also wondered if these cars were fitted with a la carte bi-xenons but not the whole lighting package.
But if what iankayem said was true that by law they must have headlight washers, then I'm sure those aren't bixenons.

I like the nons on the CL and the halogens on the G. Since the latter takes a beating off road I'd rather replace a $20 halogen bulb than a $500 igniter. The G has washers too. We are sticking with halogens on the 13 GLK. We like the LED fog lights since they are low energy consumers with long life.

Fog lights are required on any car We have. More peripheral light means better safety from critters and errant pedestrians.

I remember the days when we had sealed beams. Those were dangerous over 20mph. Halogens were a quantum leap. Hellas and cibie were the brands.

there was/is not a factory option such as "a la carte bi-xenons". You ordered the "package", and if not you got halogens.

It's possible it might have aftermarket xenons.

As I mentioned earlier, have a dealer check the VIN for all the options. That's the only way to be certain what you're getting on the car.
